I am delighted to have been awarded Highly Commended in the Birds and The Bees category of the Zoological Society of London's Animal Photography Prize. As a scientist (and photographer) this is one competition that I really enjoy as often there is so much more to the images than just incredible photography, they are thought provoking moments that have been captured by people that have spent time with their subjects and it is a real honour to have been awarded in this competition with my Love On The Water image.
The ZSL Animal Photography Prize was launched in 2012 (a year that saw two of my images awarded) with the aim of finding not only incredible wildlife images but those that would challenge people's perceptions of wildlife and our relationships with it. There are six categories with names that are designed to really make you think more deeply about nature and what would be fitting images to enter. The winning images were chosen by a panel of judges which included ZSL Honorary Conservation Fellow and television presenter Kate Humble, and renowned ornithologist Bill Oddie.
The winning images make up an incredible and breathtaking display in the grounds of ZSL London Zoo and will be in place until 28th February year when it will be moved to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. The preview and awards took place on Thursday night and was a wonderful very enjoyable event.
Congratulations to all the winners on beautiful and thought provoking images that now form an incredible exhibition in the grounds of London Zoo that I would urge everyone to go and see.
Time to start thinking about next years entries :)
