Reptiles and Amphibians of Bulgaria

This is a brand new trip for NaturesLens and it is a very exciting one and right now there is £200 off.

Reptiles and Amphibians of Bulgaria

Bulgaria has 20 species of amphibian and 37 species of reptile and this trip is the opportunity to search for, photograph and learn about the species that call the various habitats home. It is a small group so there is plenty of time to pick my brains for the best ways to photograph the different species.

The trip runs from 17th - 24th April and starts in the Western Balkan Mountains close to Vratsa town before travelling onto the shores of the Danube River where we will be looking out for European tree frogs, Danube crested newt, European pond terrapin and blotched snake to name just a few. We then travel to the mountain plateau of Vitosha mountain where we will be hoping to find the fire salamander among other species.

Our final destination is at Kresna Gorge where we will stay for 3 nights and will have 2 full days exploring various habitats from gorges, rocky & sandy terrains, big river valleys & small streams, wet meadows, small ponds & forest patches looking for rare & common species as well as species with limited distribution and we will be on the lookout for include Syrian Spadefoot Toad, Yellowbelly Toad, Stream Toad, Kotschy’s Gecko, Balkan Green Lizard, Erhard’s Wall Lizard, Worm Snake, Dahl’s Whip Snake, Leopard Snake, Four-lined Snake, Montpellier Snake, Cat Snake, & Horn-nose Viper. If you are lucky, you may even find both species of tortoises.
